Reproductive Justice: Because Personal Decisions Should Stay Personal

Let’s be real: everyone deserves control over their own body and healthcare choices. But right now, Georgia lawmakers are trying to take that decision away. They’re pushing bills that could criminalize abortion, interfere with birth control, and even put pregnancy under government surveillance.
Sounds extreme? That’s because it is. And it’s happening right now.
What is Reproductive Justice?
It’s simple: the right to decide if, when, and how to have kids—without politicians getting in the way. That means:
Access to contraception, abortion, and prenatal care.
The ability to raise a family in a safe and supportive environment.
Protecting doctors from being punished for providing necessary medical care.
This isn’t just about abortion—it’s about medical freedom, privacy, and basic human rights.
The Bills That Could Change Everything
These bills in Georgia’s legislature are dangerous, and here’s why:
HB 122: The “Personhood” Bill – Would classify a fetus as a person from conception. That means miscarriage investigations, criminalizing IVF, and restricting birth control. Nope. No thank you.
SB 36: The “Religious Freedom” Bill – Could allow doctors, pharmacists, and businesses to deny reproductive healthcare based on their personal beliefs. Imagine being denied birth control because your pharmacist “doesn’t believe in it.”
SB 39: Attacking Gender-Affirming Care – While it mainly targets trans healthcare, it sets a dangerous precedent for restricting reproductive healthcare, too.
This isn’t protecting life—it’s controlling lives.
The Real-Life Consequences
Pregnancy Complications Become Legal Nightmares – If HB 122 passes, doctors might hesitate to provide lifesaving care during pregnancy because they fear prosecution.
IVF and Birth Control Could Be Restricted – If embryos have full legal rights, that impacts fertility treatments and contraception methods.Disproportionate Harm to
Women of Color and Low-Income Families – The people most impacted? Those already facing barriers to healthcare.
No matter where you stand politically, these laws put people’s lives at risk.
What Can We Do?
We don’t have to sit back and watch Georgia go backward. Here’s how we fight back:
Call your legislators – Tell them HB 122, SB 36, and SB 39 are unacceptable.
Vote for candidates who believe in healthcare rights – Not control and punishment.
